Madonna's Dancing With The Stars Tips For Debi Mazar!
Madonna's Dancing With The Stars Tips For Debi Mazar!
Debi Mazar may not have wowed the judges on Tuesday’s Dancing With the Stars performance show (her salsa only earned 16 points), but she does have the backing of a superstar performer: her old friend Madonna! “She didn’t know what the show was — she doesn't watch TV — but she gave me great tips,” Debi tells In Touch. "The tips were in terms of how to stay strong and focus, wear your heels, do your thing, be the actress that you are, be fabulous and be yourself.”
Debi and Madonna became BFFs after meeting in an elevator at NYC hotspot Danceteria in the '80s and have remained close ever since. "We talk all the time," says Debi. In fact, she made her "professional" dancing debut in Madonna's "True Blue" video. “That was the only time I did choreographed dancing in my life. It was like ‘la, la,’ very cute and sweet," says Debi, who would have preferred that viewers see that clip instead of the one of her as a young blonde strutting her stuff on Graffiti Rock.
“Graffiti Rock is pop-culture history,” Debi tells In Touch. “It was a period in NYC in the '80s where we were around all the break dancers, but the press thinks I am a hip-hop dancer — I wish I was! I could have used some of the moves tonight on the floor.”
And if Debi makes it through tonight’s elimination show, she'll be working to improve her skills with dancer partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. “I have a great teacher, “ says Debi. “He is smooth and fantastic and I want to emulate him. He goes, ‘You can’t be me — I have been doing this my whole life!’ But it’s a work in progress, and we only had four weeks, and here we are." Madonna would be so proud!
