If true, this would totally blow the whole Lewinsky debacle out of the water. It would be the oddest Presidential affair by far, and smacks of political smear campaign. But what if it really were true?
Granted, the story was published in The Globe, which has been known to stretch the truth a bit. But they're not the first to bring it up. Two years ago a story was circulating on the web that Laura Bush had moved out and was secretly staying at the Mayflower Motel. Just last summer the story was that the Bushes were only staying together until the end of his term, as they were "contractually obligated" to do. And once again, the name of that saucy Secretary of State was tossed into the ring.
Tabloid sensationalism aside, could it have really happened? Bush supposedly confessed to his psychologist that he fantasized about Condi, and she once almost slipped and called him her husband. They did spend a lot of time together; it wouldn't be the first time an office affair took place under those circumstances. I could totally see W being careless and indiscreet, but not Condoleezza - she's much too smart for that, I think. Then again, she wouldn't be the first intelligent woman to make such a mistake. Nor will she be the last.
