M.I.A. has given birth to a baby boy.
The rapper welcomed her first child with her fiance, musician Benjamin
Bronfman, into the world in Los Angeles.
M.I.A. announced her happy news on her MySpace blog, writing: “MY BABY WAS
BORN WEDNESDAY, HE IS HEALTHY, FINE, BEAUTIFUL AND THE MOST AMZING THING
EVER ON THIS PLANET, OF COURSE IM HIS MUM!!! ME AND BABY ARE PUTTING OUR
TOUR DATES FOR 2010 TOGETHER AND MAKING MIX TAPES AND FIGURING OUT A WAY TO
BREAK OUT OF THE HOSPITAL! (sic)”
The couple are yet to announce the baby’s name.
The 31-year-old British-born musician went into labour just hours after
performing at the Grammy Awards on February 8.
M.I.A., who performed ‘Swagga Like Us’ with Jay-Z, T.I., Lil Wayne and Kanye
West at the ceremony, revealed she began having contractions at 2am the
following morning.
Speaking at the prestigious ceremony, the rapper admitted she couldn’t wait
to give birth.
Asked what she was most looking forward to about becoming a mother, she
said: “Everything. I think it's going to be the best thing in the world!”
M.I.A. announced her pregnancy last October, but was keen to keep the baby’s
sex a secret.
She said: “When I found out I was pregnant and ‘Paper Planes’ was in the
iTunes top 10, it seemed like the whole world was reshuffled in one week,
and all my plans went out the window. I've got two kids, that's what it
feels like. And that's the lesson – you can't make plans.”
