NE-YO ON WORKING WITH LINDSAY LOHAN AND BRITNEY SPEARS
When asked about the title of his upcoming album, “Year of the Gentleman,” Ne-Yo says: “What it is to be a gentleman. I am trying to lead by example if you will. There are a couple things that make up a gentleman: a gentleman is diverse, a gentleman is patient, a gentleman understands the strengths of dressing for the occasion, a gentleman knows how to treat a lady. I say a lady not a woman because there are some women that don’t demand respect but a lady demands respect at all times and it is to be shown respect at all times.”
When Sparks asks Ne-Yo about his lack of confidence in Lindsay Lohan’s musical abilities, Ne-Yo says: “Straight up and down I thought it was gonna suck. I did, I was like Lindsay Lohan are you joking? Are you serious? What the hell am I going to do for Lindsay Lohan?... I took it as a challenge. And we put together a record together for her the name of the record is ‘Bossy.’”
Ne-Yo continues, saying Lohan proved him wrong: “Quality record. One that I didn’t think she was going to be able to pull off. Again I will admit that. Straight up and down …I had to eat my words… I tried to call her and apologize for the assumption… Miss Lindsay Lohan I apologize, if you are watching. I am sorry. There we go.”
Ne-Yo wrote six songs for Britney Spears’ last album, but none of them made it onto the disc: “Nicole sang them, Beyonce, Rihanna so you know…”
When Sparks inquires about any animosity between Ne-Yo and Spears, Ne-Yo says: “I never met Britney Spears, I can’t have animosity with someone I don’t know. I mean I don’t know her I heard she was upset with me but behind that I didn’t really care you have way bigger fish to fry little mama than me about a couple songs. I tried to call her, call her people, I called everybody. They didn’t want to answer a phone, they didn’t want to return a phone call so I said alright well I guess I will take these songs that were written for Britney and give them to other people. Time is money.”
