In an exclusive interview with In Touch, Anna Nicole Smith’s ex Larry Birkhead says he’s glad the inquest into Daniel Smith’s death has finally ended, but wants the world to know that Daniel “wasn’t a bad kid.”

He says, “The results aren’t a surprise. I knew what was going on in his life — kids do crazy things and experiment.” Pathologist Dr. Govinda Raju ruled in December 2006 that the 20-year-old died from a lethal combination of methadone and antidepressants. Followed by months of testimony investigating possible foul play, the seven-person jury recommended that no criminal charges be filed on March 31. “Certain people wanted it to be a homicide but they have different agendas,” Larry says. “There’s no celebration in this because it doesn’t bring him back, but fortunately, some people will have closure.” Daniel died on September 10, 2006, in the Bahamas, three days after Anna Nicole gave birth to his sister, Dannielynn. “People really wanted to know what happened to him,” Larry tells In Touch.
