Leona Lewis has become the first British female singer to top the US singles
charts for over 20 years.
The star claimed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with
her track 'Bleeding Love' ahead of Madonna and Usher.
Her mentor Simon Cowell said: "I am incredibly proud of Leona, what she has
achieved in the past year is simply amazing. I am very, very happy for her."
Meanwhile, the X Factor winner, 22, who's in the middle of a US promotional push, is prone to severe tonsillitis which threatens to hamper her singing career and is to have an op to remove her tonsils, says The Sun.
Her spokesman said: "She'd like to tell her fans that this is a routine op which will not affect her voice. She has had specialist advice."
