Nicole Richie tells her friends and family why she got pregnant

Nicole Richie’s pregnancy may end up keeping her out of jail, but that’s not the reason she got pregnant. A friend of the celebutante told Australian tabloid NW, "[Nicole is] fed up with all the misinformation being tossed around, especially the ridiculous claims that she got pregnant on purpose to stay out of prison. Hearing that one made her really anxious to speak out and set the record straight."

Nicole was particularly incensed that her own friends and family believed the cruel rumors. She called a meeting with them recently to clear up all the nonsense. According to NW’s source, Nicole told the attendees, "I got pregnant because I want to turn my life around.�

One family member who must not have been at the meeting is Nicole’s adoptive father, Lionel Richie. On Saturday, he told People magazine that he doesn’t know if Nicole is pregnant, jokingly saying, “"Nicole, baby, call me!"

Richie also said, "Grandpa, man, that's wild. I don't know if I'm going to be grandpa, I don't know if I'm ready to be called grandpa."
