Julia & Danny’s Green Dream House

Julia Roberts’ eco-friendly $21 million Malibu dream compound is nearing completion, and the actress is thrilled at the prospect of moving in.

In 2003, Julia and cameraman husband Danny Moder bought a 1960s style house overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The next year, they purchased the land next door, razed the existing home and started planning their 5,232-square-foot-eco-mansion!

“It’s spectacular,� says a source. “And it’s totally green. It’ll have water-saving devices, a solar water heater and solar heat, an ecological drainage system, and a lot of natural light. They don’t even need air conditioning because of the ocean breezes.�

The eco-couple borrow library books instead of buying them to save paper, eat organic food to avoid pesticides and drive a gas-saving hybrid car. Julia even knits and sews and is building a sewing room in the house. “She feels she’s saving the forests and wildlife by making clothes herself and not relying on industrial methods that pollute,� the source says.

Julia and Danny, twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, 2, and baby Henry, 1 month, should be in their eco-compound by year’s end. Until then, Julia’s “seen checking on the home’s progress,� says the source. “She’s always has a big smile when she sees it.�
