Beckham Backlash!

David and Victoria Beckham have only been in the United States a couple of weeks, and they’ve already worn out their welcome reports Star Maazine. Members of David’s new soccer team- are annoyed with the star treatment that he is getting.

The extra attention must be especially infuriating to David’s new Los Angeles Galaxy teammates and their wives and girlfriends. “He’s barely started practicing, and he’s all anyone seems to care about,� reveals a source close to the team.

This was never more obvious than on July 13, when Galaxy held a huge event to welcome the world’s most famous soccer player aboard. While Becks, 33, stood in a swirl of confetti before thousands of cheering fans, his teammates were on a nearby field practicing and sweating in the burning California sun.

And even though Becks had an injured ankle, his teammates were no less annoyed.

“All the other players work really hard day in and day out, but no one gives them the royal treatment,� gripes the source.

Beckham, who helped his old tea, Real Madrid, win the Spanish title last month, is set to earn $32.5 million over five years with Galazy, plus millions more in endorsements. And Major League Soccer is praying that the British superstar will popularize the sport in the U.S. But for all his popularity with soccer’s management, he hasn’t really seemed to score with his teammates- nor has his seemingly aloof wife.

“Victoria’s over-the-top persona and standoffish attitude seem to have alienated the other wives and girlfriends of the team,� says the source. “I think she comes off as snobby and uptight, and none of the women want to be around her. She’s not exactly the sort of girl they’d invite to the team picnic.�

Although some British sources are saying that Posh, 33, is scared of being judged by L.A. standards- and failing- her recent comments about women in Hollywood are likely to alienate her even more. “They dress down quite a lot here, don’t they?� Victoria asked one reporter. “It seems to be in keeping to go to Starbucks in track suit bottoms and UGG boots.�

To that, a friend of one of the Galaxy wives says, “I hear Victoria is a total diva! She’s going to have to be a little more humble if she wants people to warm up to her here.�

Although the former Spice Girl has made rounds of public appearances to drum up attention for herself and her husband, endearing herself to Americans is not proving to be as easy as she thought. Her one-hour NBC special, Victoria Beckham: Coming to America, which aired on July 16, was massacred by critics and had disappointing ratings, coming in second in its time slot - behind a rerun of Wife Swap!

“Victoria hasn’t hit home with women, who see her as self-indulgent and ridiculous,� says the source. “And it’s no different with the players’ wives.�

Nor has the press been any more forgiving. The Web site TMZ.com has branded her style ‘Poshtitute,� while N.Y.’s Daily News described her as a “Bridiot!� Commentators raged at her and David’s revealing 28-page pictorial in W magazine, comparing her “skeletal� and “emaciated� figure to that of a 15-year-old boy. Even the paparazzi are underwhelmed. “You’ve got to wonder what she’s planning to be, other than a beautiful corpse on the periphery,� observes Frank Griffin, owner of the photo agency Bauer-Griffin. His opinion: “She can’t act. She can’t sing. She can’t dance.�

Another publication even claimed that her skin has broken out because of all the stress the move to the U.S. has created. ‘her skin’s rubbish,� said one source.
