Details on Justin Timberlake's split with Cameron Diaz

Justin Timberlake is going to have to go on a mole hunt. Friends of his have leaked details of his split with Cameron Diaz to People magazine. One source confirms that Justin was the one who initiated the break up because he, unlike Cameron, was interested in Hollywood nightlife.

A buddy of Justin's said, "He called me around Christmas to say they had broken up. They're not talking to each other because things are a little awkward." A Christmas split explains why Cameron was so absent from Justin's life lately. She didn't accompany him on his holiday trip to Tennessee to see his mother and she was also missing from his side at the premiere of his new film Alpha Dog several days ago.

There won't be any mud-slinging in the press for Diaz and Timberlake, though. The friend said, "They were laid-back together, so it's not going to be an ugly breakup. This is just them realizing it was time to move on." The former couple spoke of their continued friendship in the statement they issued on Thursday about the break up. It read, "We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship, and have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another."

Another source close to the couple seemed to know why things didn't work out for Cameron and Justin despite the nearly four years they had been involved. The mole said, "I don't think she's so much into the scene like he is. He's really young and he likes to go out. [He] hasn't been into her for awhile."
