Pop beauty Britney Spears could be facing a bitter divorce battle with estranged husband Kevin Federline.

Sole legal custody means only one parent has the right to make major decisions.

In Britney Spears's divorce papers, the pop singer also filed for sole custody of Sean Preston, and Jayden James.

Spears, 24, had suggested that her husband only be given visitation rights. She also waived her right to maintenance from Federline, whose career has yet to match the success of her own, and she asked that each party pay their own legal fees reports Time Online.
Federline, an aspiring rapper, also wants a slice of his wife’s multi-million dollar fortune, with the documents revealing that he will seek spousal support too.

"Kevin is prepared to go the distance in order to do what he feels is necessary to protect and safeguard the children and will not be intimidated or dissuaded from pursuit of those goals," said Michael Sands, a spokesman for Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan.

Reports have said that Spears, was protected against a costly settlement through an "iron-clad" pre-nuptial agreement. Her fortune was estimated at around $120 million by Forbes in 2004.

In the divorce papers, the pop star lists assets including "miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects" as well as her earnings from after the separation date as separate property - and thereby off-limits to her husband.

"It's not that unusual, but if you want to send a message that you want to be amicable, (both parties) would seek joint custody," Lynn Soodik, an L.A. family law specialist tells People Magazine

"That he's seeking sole custody leads me to believe they're heading to a costly battle over the kids," she adds.

This will spark a custody battle between Britney, 24, and her rapper ex, who
already has two children from his relationship with actress Shar Jackson.

Last night, Kevin performed songs from his new rap album 'Playing With Fire'
at Chicago's House of Blues.
During his set Kevin called out to the crowd, saying: "Hey, I see a lot of
fine ladies in here. You know I'm a free man, right, ladies? You wanna dance
with a pimp? That's a sexy-ass lady right there."
Later he shouted: "All my ladies. I love you to death!"

Meanwhile, despite months of promotion, Federline's Playing With Fire cracks the Billboard top 200 at #151, with first-week sales reported at about 6,000. According to the latest SoundScan numbers, Playing With Fire - one of 19 new releases to enter this latest sales chart - is the 16th-best-performing debut of the week.
