Nicole Richie is launching a pop career.
The 'Simple Life' star is following in her former best friend Paris Hilton's
footsteps and bringing out an album.
Nicole, the adopted daughter of 80s pop legend Lionel Richie, claims she
already has six tracks ready for the record.
Speaking of Lionel, Richie says he's hurt by media chatter about his daughter's weight loss.
"I'll be honest with you, it hurts me more than it hurts her," the 57-year-old R&B singer tells "Access Hollywood"
"I must tell you, I'm the basket case."
In a recent interview in Vanity Fair magazine, Richie acknowledged she was "too thin right now" and was getting treatment to put on a few pounds The Show.
Richie adds "I think the good part of it is she is aware of it. ... She has heard this all of her life from me, so this just a continuation of the reminder."
Nicole Richie revealed to Scotland's Daily Record newspaper: "Right now I'm just
writing and recording. The way that a record goes, you sing up to 20 or 30
songs and then pick your favourite 10. I'm about six songs in."
Nicole, 24, has not revealed if she has been working with her dad on any of
the tracks, but claims the songs focus on her life - past, present and
future.
She explained: "The songs are about what's going on in my life, growing up
and becoming a woman. They are about realising what's great and what's so
wonderful about life and being on this earth and living the way that I
live."
Paris - who is currently starring with Nicole in the latest series of their
reality show 'The Simple Life: 'Til Death Do Us Part' - releases her debut
album on August 22.
The socialite's self-titled LP, which features the single 'Stars Are Blind',
will hit the shelves two weeks later than previously announced and is being
tipped to be a worldwide hit.
