Nun Prays for Tom Hanks' Soul
|
Over in England's Lincoln Cathedral, Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou are busy filming a movie based on Dan Brown's best selling "The Da Vinci Code." The Very Reverand Alec Knight agreed to allow filming in the cathedral after Sony Pictures offered a donation of $180,000. Bosh to Reverand Knight: next time, hold out for more. Meanwhile, "The Da Vinci Code" causes controversy. Whereas The Bible was a fiction which some people wound up taking as the absolute truth, "The Da Vinci Code" was a fiction which some people have mistaken for the author's idea of the truth. In the novel, Jesus is said to have married Mary Magdalene and fathered a child. The book intimates that the Roman Catholic Church is hiding the truth about the life of Jesus. Religious critics consider that a heresy; and of course we must admit that with so much footage and eye-witness testimony and detailed written documentation of exactly what Jesus was doing on every day of his life, the truth about him is clear, and anybody who questions the truth about him is a heretic and a ratfink. Sister Mary Michael is among those who feel "Da Vinci Code" is heretical. 61-years-old, she yesterday spent 12 hours knelt in prayer outside the cathedral to protest the filming taking place inside. She is surely a woman of her convictions, because not even if they offered us $180,000 would we stay kneeling for 12 hours to protest this Tom Hanks film. (By Scott Rose) |
