Domingo Talks About His Last Concert
|
Even as he is about to perform a recital in Berlin to an audience of 20,000, tenor sensation Placido Domingo is speculating on his retirement. A marvel of longevity, Domingo says he started his career singing with colleagues who could have been his grand-parents, continued by singing with colleagues who could have been his siblings, and now performs with colleagues who could be his grandchildren. Though he says he doesn't know exactly when or how he'll retire, he does say that he has no intention of saying farewell with a major concert tour, only to make a comeback a few years later. Will everybody who believes that raise their third hand? Italian tenor Carlo Bergonzi made at least two dozen farewell tours. A retiring major opera singer wouldn't be a retiring major opera singer if he didn't come back at least several times after his first farewell. (By Scott Rose) |
