Hitler Defeated Again
|
It's that time of year when The German Film Prize is awarded. Last Friday, "Alles auf Zucker!" won 6 of the 10 awards for which it was nominated. "Zucker" treats of two brothers - one a secular fellow, the other an Orthodox Jew - raised on different sides of the Berlin wall and having to bury the hatchet when their mother dies. This was the first Jewish-themed comedy produced in Germany since before Adolph stormed the land with his butt-ugly moustache and rabid-dog racial theories. Another film in the running for prizes this year was "Der Untergang" which chronicled the days leading up to Hitler's suicide. Not a laugh riot in any case, and we understand that the scene in which the Hitler stand-in took a monstrous dildo got left on the cutting room floor. Be that as it may, the best actor award went to Henry Huebchen of "Zucker." As he had been up against Bruno Ganz who played Hitler in "Untergang," upon winning, Huebchen said: "I just beat Hitler!"
