Fireworks At Philharmonic Concert
|
More than 47,000 people gathered on the Great Lawn in Central Park Tuesday night to hear the New York Philharmonic give one of its free concerts in the park. There is no telling if the same size crowd would appear to hear the Simpson sisters lip-synching for free. The Philharmonic's music director Lorin Maazel conducted an all-Dvorak program that included the "Carnival" Overture, the Cello Concerto with Lynn Harrell as soloist and the Ninth Symphony, commonly called "From The New World" for its inclusion of American folk tunes. A tremendous fireworks display ended the evening not with a bang but rather with 2,000 bangs. Wagging tongues say that at the same time, the Simpson sisters were getting banged, but we can't confirm that gossip. (By Scott Rose) |
