Director George Lucas on Wednesday gave reporters a first look at the final installment in the nearly 30-year-old "Star Wars" saga, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. " Fans will see young Anakin Skywalker don the black battle mask of menacing Darth Vader as he is lured to evil.
Revenge of the Sith set for release around the world on May 19 is described as "so satisfyingly tragic, you'll think you're watching 'Othello' or 'Hamlet'" said filmmaker, Kevin Smith. "This is the 'Star Wars' prequel the haters have been bitching for since 'Menace' came out, and if they don't cop to that when they finally see it, they're lying,"
Lucas told reporters he envisioned the first three films, which began with "Star Wars" in 1977, as entertainment about the children of Anakin and Senator Padme Amidala -- Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa reports Reuters..
The final three films that began with "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" in 1999, tell the parents' more conflicted tale. "I knew this would be a more mature look at the story," Lucas said.
At a film conference in Las Vegas during the month of March Lucas said "It's a real tearjerker, and it will be received in a way that none of us can expect. I feel that I've made the movie the best I can and it turned out the way I wanted it to be, so I'm happy,"
"Obviously, fans would love to see a movie about Darth Vader running around killing people. I'm not telling that story, and I'm not interested in that. That's not what the movie is.
"This first trilogy is really about the father, the struggles of a father, or a man, basically, to find himself, and at the same time fall into a trap of wanting certain powers, making a pact with the devil and basically spending the rest of his life regretting it."
