Candles and Pink sequels considered |

Over the last few years, the '80s have slowly started coming back. New stars are covering old hits, new wavers are climbing the charts and neon clothing is back on the racks. There have even been some recent retoolings of '80s movies. Jennifer Garner essentially remade Big with 13 Going on 30, Nick Cannon did an urban spin on Can't Buy Me Love with Love Don't cost a Thing and Mean Girls was Heathers for Generation Y. It's no wonder that some of the '80s most beloved actors are trying to get in on the trend. And Molly Ringwald is leading the pack. She is currently working on sequels to two of her hits with director John Hughes, Pretty in Pink and 16 Candles. For the Pretty in Pink sequel, all three of the original stars, Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy and John Cryer, will return and work with Hughes, according to Digital Spy. The film is planned for a 2006 release. For all you Long Duk Dong fans out there, Ain't It Cool News claims that the USA network is in the process of creating a 16 Candles update called 32 Candles. Hughes is not attached, but both Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall are interested. Unfortunately, the Donger might not make the cast. While the plots for both films seem rather flimsy at this point, it's no wonder that Molly's signed on for both. I mean, when's the last time you saw her in anything other than a cameo or a late night Skinemax flick?
