Yesterday, an FDA panel approved the use of silicone implants from the Mentor Corporation. During the hearings, some women gave testimony about how silicone from ruptured implants squeezed out of their eyes and ears. Nonetheless, Mentor convinced the FDA that very few of its implants rupture. In the course of the hearings there doesn't seem to have been any suggestion that women should love themselves the way they were born with their nice soft breasts and forget stiff implants; as if anybody would have listened to such a crazy idea.
