Mel Gibson has released a new version of the biblical blockbuster, 'The Passion of the Christ,' called 'The Passion Recut.' In the new version Gibson cuts six minutes of the extremely realistic scenes of violence in a bid to appease the conservative audience.
Along with deleting some graphic shots, Recut features some new images that replace the most blood-drenched acts of torture, often by providing a distant view of action that was close-up in the original, says Bob Berney, president of Newmarket Films, which distributes the film.
The Passion of the Christ became a $370-million-grossing phenomenon last year. Although The Passion Recut will be presented at a little more than 500 screens, it isexpected that the unrated version of deeply religious picture will repeat the success of Gibson's producing debut.
