Sex Strike Opera Headed For New York City
|
Aristophanes wrote the play 'Lysistrata' in 411BC. It involves a protest by women against the warring ways of their husbands; until such time as the men stop fighting, the women won't put out for them. Given what you know about the Greeks, you might think that didn't put all too much pressure on those men. However, to know what finally happens in the play, you could catch Mark Adamo's new opera based on 'Lysistrata,' set to debut at the Houston Grand Opera this month, and coming to the New York City Opera in the Spring of 2006.
