Reuters reports that members of the Scottish Parliament are seeking to restore the good name of King Macbeth (ruled 1040 to 1057) which they say has been sullied by Shakespeare's play "Macbeth." This comes on the 1,000 anniversary of Macbeth's birth; The Bosh of course wishes him a good one. Whereas the real Macbeth unified Scotland and was perceived to be good, Shakespeare would have us believe that he was a murderer tormented by the prophesies of witches who reduced him to madness before he was himself killed. Shakespeare wrote "Macbeth" for King James VI, who believed in witches. Mae West said that there's no such thing as bad publicity; would Macbeth be a household name if Shakespeare had never written his play? (By Scott Rose) |
