The former world No. 1 Serena Williams jumped from seventh to second in the latest WTA Tour rankings after beating current world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport in three sets in Saturday's women's final at the Australian Open, giving Williams her first Grand Slam title since Wimbledon 2003. Roger Federer maintains is number ranking among the men, while Australian Open runner-up Lleyton Hewitt replaced Roddick at No. 2, with Roddick slipping to No. 3. Sunday's Australian Open winner, Marat Safin, remains at fourth.
